Diabetes mellitus is a type of metabolic syndrome characterized by an increased level of blood glucose level caused from the lack of insulin secretion, lack of response to insulin, or both. FOODBOX understand the common severity of diabetes mellitus, therefore we want more people to know about this common disease.
糖尿病是一種身體新陳代謝機制中會出現的問題,而患者的血糖通常會比平常人高。而導致血糖升高有兩類原因,一為身體無法制造胰島素,二為身體細胞無法對胰島素造成反應。FOODBOX 也清楚糖尿病是香港人非常常見的疾病,因此希望可以令更多人認識及提早避免糖尿病的出現。
Typically, when people talk about diabetes mellitus, they mean Type II diabetes mellitus, type I is a story for another time. However, people with either types of diabetes mellitus both have an increased risk of cardiovascular, peripheral vascular, and cerebrovascular disease.
普遍而言,香港人統稱所有種類的糖尿病為糖尿病,但其實也有更細分的,例如一型及二型糖尿病。二型是由平日生活習慣所引起的,有別於一型,因此今天我們會以二型糖尿病為重點。但無可厚非則兩類糖尿病皆會增加我會患上心血管,腦部疾病。
What is Insulin | 什麼是胰島素
Insulin is secreted by the pancreas in the body when the blood glucose level is high. It promotes glucose uptake from blood to the cell, thus lowering the blood glucose level.
胰島素是由身體中的胰臟中制造,當血糖指數上升必會釋放致血液中。它可以增加身體細胞吸收糖的速度,從而降低血糖。
Type II Diabetes Mellitus | 二型糖尿病
Medically, it is also called non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), it consists of 90 to 95% of all diabetes and affects predominantly adults only. When the body has a reduced production rate of insulin and a reduced response of insulin from body cells, it develops.
又稱成人型糖尿病,包含了 90 – 95% 的糖尿病人口,並主要影響成年人口。病症是由身體減少制造胰島素及身體細胞對胰島靈敏度減少導致。

If you haven’t been had or been diagnosed with type II diabetes mellitus and you suspect you are at risk. There are some genuine suggestions for you.
Maintaining an ideal body weight
Exercising regularly (150 mins of high intensity exercise per week)
Eating a healthy diet
Stop smoking/ drinking
