Eat Healthier in Hong Kong: What is Hypercholesterolemia | 香港食得更健康: 什麼是高膽固醇

I know you’ve all heard of hypercholesterolemia somewhere before. However, is it well understood by people? Do you know what’s the difference between the aforementioned with its close relative hyperlipidemia? Fundamentally, they have something in common, and in the coming blog posts, we will discuss more with them.

三高其中一樣就係高膽固醇,但係唔知你又有冇聽過高血脂,其實佢地兩者有啲咩分別?我地今日會探討膽固醇先,而下一篇文章我地會繼續睇多小小關於血脂的資訊。

 

What is Hypercholesterolemia? | 什麼是高膽固醇?

Hypercholesterolemia is a lipid disorder with an abnormal level of low-density lipoprotein (LDL), we will discuss more about it in the coming section. The higher its level, the higher the possibility of fat collecting in arteries, which may lead to heart attack and stroke.

高膽固醇是當血液有過多的低密度脂蛋白膽固醇 (壞膽固醇),而它血含量太高的時候會增加患上血管疾病以及中風的風險。

 

What is LDL? | 什麼是低密度脂蛋白膽固醇 (壞膽固醇)?

Low-density lipoprotein, also comes with its friends, including high-density lipoprotein. LDL is commonly referred to as the bad cholesterol, and vice versa.

LDL’s main duty in the body is to transport cholesterol to areas of the body which need them, so when too much LDL is present in blood, there will be a surplus, leading to the accumulation of fat on walls of arteries.

除了當見的壞膽固醇之外,也有高密度脂蛋白膽固醇 (好膽固醇)。

壞膽固醇在身體的主要工作是將膽固醇從儲備中搬運到有需要的身體部份。所以壞膽固醇也是必須品,但當血含量過高的時候才會令到有多出的膽固醇儲積在血管的表面。

Aging, High blood pressure, Family history, Diabetes

年紀,高血壓,家族病史,糖尿病

 

Prevention | 預防

Exercising, Staying at a healthy weight, Eating low-fat foods, Not using tobacco products.

運動,保持健康體重,小食用高脂肪食物,不使用煙草產品
